Privacy Policy

1. Data We Collect

We collect: account information (email, display name), uploaded study materials, learning progress data, usage analytics (pages visited, features used), and payment information (processed securely by Stripe).

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to: provide personalized AI-generated learning content, track your learning progress, improve platform features, process payments, and communicate important updates. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

2b. AI Model Training

Your data is not used to train any AI models. Specifically:

• Anthropic (Claude) — API usage is not used for model training.
• Google (Gemini) — Paid API tier data is not used for training.
• Moonshot (Kimi) — API data is governed by Moonshot's data use policy (link).
• OpenAI — API usage (embeddings, TTS) is not used for training per OpenAI's API data usage policy.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:

• Supabase — Database and authentication
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI content generation (questions, animations, knowledge graph)
• Google (Gemini API) — Document analysis and summarization. Document text extracted from your PDFs is sent to Google's API for processing.
• Moonshot (Kimi) — AI chat and short evaluation features
• OpenAI — Text-to-speech and text embeddings (for semantic search of your materials)
• Microsoft (Azure Speech Service) — Pronunciation evaluation. Audio recordings you submit for pronunciation practice are sent to Microsoft's Azure servers for analysis.
• Stripe — Payment processing
• Vercel — Hosting and deployment
• Google Analytics — Usage analytics

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted in AWS). We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure users can only access their own data. All communications are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.

4b. Document Processing and Semantic Search

Uploaded course materials are processed in multiple steps: (1) converted from PDF to text using AI vision models, (2) split into smaller chunks, and (3) converted to numerical vectors (embeddings) using OpenAI's text-embedding-3-large model. These embeddings are stored in our database (Supabase pgvector) to enable semantic search, allowing the AI to find relevant sections of your materials when answering questions.

4c. Data Retention

When you delete a course, it enters a soft-delete state and is retained for 5 calendar days before permanent removal. During this period, you may contact us to recover the course. After 5 days, all associated data (materials, progress, AI-generated content) is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

5. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. You may also export your learning data. Account deletion will remove all personal data, though anonymized analytics may be retained.

5b. Age Requirement

Knoqe is intended for users aged 16 and older. If you are under 16, you may only use Knoqe with verifiable parental or guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

6. PIPEDA & GDPR Compliance

We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) for Canadian users and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for EU users. We only process data with a lawful basis and provide data portability upon request.
